Resting from Thanksgiving

This pretty much sums up our day here today!  After yesterday, all of us have rested and played on the computer or watched TV.  No Black Friday shoppers here!

Yesterday we had a really nice meal:
Turkey
Dressing
Gravy
Green beans
Macaroni and Cheese
Yeast rolls

Crustless pumpkin pie
Brownies
NY Cheesecake (the favorite of all involved!)

I asked my family what they would want different next year.  One of the boys said rice and Dennis said mashed potatoes - a definite carbohydrate family here!  :)

I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving as I did!

PS - this is Oscar in his favorite position - being petted by Nikolai!!

Monday Menu Planning

Monday - tonight we had nachos and tacos.  Taco meat, onions, tomatoes, salsa, cheese, and sour cream - yummy!  The boys prefer tacos but Dennis and I like nachos.  This is an easy meal to fix.  I had cooked hamburger a few days ago and this was a good meal to use the meat.

Tuesday - sliced turkey, rice, gravy, turnip greens, chocolate chip cookies

Wednesday - tomato, beef, and macaroni soup.  This is pure comfort food to me.  I might even throw caution to the wind and cook some cornbread muffins as well!  Did I mention this is a fairly inexpensive meal?

Thursday - ham steak, biscuits, peas, macaroni and cheese, and brownies (if I get them made!)

Friday - ahh, our day for no-meat meal.  I think we will have egg salad sandwiches or grilled cheese sandwiches.  I think sandwiches would be a good thing on a Friday night after a long week.

Saturday - this is my favorite day since I clean out the fridge and we eat all the leftovers!  Nothing wrong with that at all.  It's a good thing!  Now, if there are no left-overs, then I have problems.  I am thinking hamburgers will be a good back-up.

Sunday - the boys like to have pizza on Sundays.  I think I am more in the mood for something else - like BBQ chicken.

 What are you having?

Beating Around the Bush

My snowball bush is almost ready to start sharing its beautiful white blooms with me.

I had it trimmed back drastically last year - it was taller than the house!

I was concerned it might not bloom.

I just love it when it is all in bloom - apparently, the bees do too!!

Pinned It, Made it!

I stumbled across a party that features things that you pinned and then made.  I thought that was a wonderful idea!

My entry is one that I have been making for the past year - Grandmother's Favorite Dishcloth.  I love knitting these dishcloths because they are quick and easy - a perfect craft for watching TV, sitting at the doctor's office, riding in the car, waiting on the boys, etc....

I also love to wash dishes with these.  They are divine to use as dishcloths!  Once you have used these to wash dishes, everything else does not compare.

I like to give these away to people.  They can be used as dishcloths, washcloths, potholders, spa cloths, etc...  They are very versatile.

The picture above was what I gave my boys' school teachers the last day of school last year.

Happy Easter!

"The joy of loving Jesus comes from the joy of sharing in His sufferings.  So do not allow  yourself to be troubled or distressed, but believe in the joy of the Resurrection.  In all our lives, as in the life of Jesus, the Resurrection has to come, the joy of Easter has to dawn."

Four animals that hibernate for the winter

The Black Bear - we have several around here in our woods.  They hibernate for up to 100 days!

The Box Turtle - again, very common in my part of the country.  They hibernate from 77-154 days!

The Common PoorWill.  Did you know that this bird sleeps the winter away?  They will hibernate under a rock or a log for up to 100 days!  I really like this little bird.

And, finally, since I have have not been here since Fall, I too have hibernated for over 100 days!  The difference is that I have gone to work, taken care of my family, and spent many days under the weather.

I am glad that spring is here!
