Advent Wreath? I need help!

Advent has started and I am so unprepared.  I do not have the traditional wreath of evergreens and berries.  I did well just to have the candles.  I had bought them back in the summer at Big Lots.  They are not exactly what I wanted but much cheaper than ordering them online.  I tried hundreds different candle holders, plates, bowls, etc...  I'm frustrated.  But, since I needed the candles for our meal tonight, I used what I had.  I like the simplicity but feel that the candles need dressing - maybe with some twine or a band of brown paper?  I don't know, maybe you could suggest something?

The vintage cloth that it is sitting on is the only thing I really love.  Isn't it pretty?  I can just imagine some housewife laboring over this.  I thought it was perfect for Advent.  It reminds me of poinsettias.

  1. I think your advent candles look great on your vintage cloth. I just admire the fact that you could locate them after having bought them this summer!

  2. Susan - I think it looks good already, but I'm sure the boys can find some lovely greenery outside to arrange around them if you're wanting something natural. Otherwise a pretty ribbon would look nice.

  3. I missed the start of advent too this year. I always create a plate with my candles. I use tinsel and ornaments...

Last year, I put some berries and pinecones on the plate...

Hope these might inspire you to the perfect advent plate display this year.

  4. I like the idea of outside greenery - or some of those "stone" type things in multi colors that you buy at Michaels - people put them in candle holders or vases.....

I have two or three cloths almost identical to the one you have! I found them in an antique shop years ago....
